Cult of done
13 principles
a framework for work and self-improvement
!
First principle
3 stages:
- not knowing: ignorance, uncertainty and curiosity
- action: take steps against not knowing -> making mistakes
- completed: problem solved -> not knowing tranformed into skill by action Stages are cyclical and continuous.
Second principle
Accept everything is a draft, it helps to get it done Everything is a draft, it's not perfect, never will be, even after it's done
Third principle
There's no editing stage don't tweak what's there, create a new one
Fourth principle
Fake it till you make it Pretend you know and do it
Fifth principle
Banish procrastination. More than a week to get it done ? throw it away, start anew. If you're not feeling it, don't try to make it better, try the next idea, make the current one done.
Sixth principle
The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done while being one project better.
Seventh principle
Once your done you can throw it away. The art isn't the art, the art is what happens inside you when you make it.
Eighth principle
Laugh at perfection, it prevents you from being done. Project is not finished, it's due. Make it done.
Ninth principle
People without dirty hands are wrong, doing something makes you right.
Tenth principle
Failure counts as done. If you don't try, you can't fail.
Eleventh principle
Destruction is a variant of done. If you destroy, you can move to the next thing, you're done. You've not failed, you've found ten ways in which it doesn't work.
Twelfth principle
If you have an idea and publish it counts as a ghost of done. Idea's are worthless, give them away.
Thirteenth principle
Done is the engine of more. Being done is the only way to find out what's next.
